Dolomites Val Gardena

A valley bursting with tradition, culture and character

"On the mountain we feel the joy of living,
the emotion of feeling good
and the relief of forgetting earthly miseries.
All this because we are closer to heaven."

- Emilio Comici

Embedded in the impressive rock formations of the Dolomites, lies the picturesque Val Gardena. The unique landscape of the valley immediately makes you forget the stress of everyday life and offers a variety of recreational opportunities as well as sporting activities. The three beautiful towns of Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva Gardena always invite you to stroll, shop or have an aperitif. Whether flower meadows in spring, green pastures in summer, colourful forests in autumn, or snow-covered huts in winter - every season has something very special and will amaze you every time. It is not for nothing that the Dolomites have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. See for yourself and let yourself be enchanted by this very special place!

Winter

As soon as the first snowflakes cover the valley, a true winter sports paradise opens up. The largest ski area in the world awaits you: Dolomiti Superski. With just one ski pass you can use 12 different ski areas and leave countless kilometres of slopes behind you. Whether beginner, advanced, professional or World Cup Star - there is something for everyone! As a special highlight, you can also witness a Ski World Cup race once a year and cheer on the athletes at the edge of the slopes.

Apart from the skiing and snowboarding paradise, Val Gardena also offers you wonderful cross-country skiing routes, perfectly prepared toboggan runs, impressive snowshoe hikes and much more. Immerse yourself in the winter wonderland with us!

Summer

Being active will reward you with breathtaking views

After the last snow has melted, the valley gradually transforms into a summer fairytale. Lush meadows, colourful flowers and mountain peaks bathed in sunlight invite you to experience the beautiful nature from one of the countless hiking trails. But climbers, mountaineers and mountain bikers will also get their money's worth, as they have a multitude of choices for tours of all levels of difficulty.

To round off the day after an enjoyable hike or a challenging mountain tour, there is a wide selection of huts and restaurants with very special culinary highlights from the region. What could be better than watching the sun set behind distant mountain peaks over an aperitif with a magnificent view?

Culture

Take a look back in time

The 25-kilometre-long Val Gardena valley stretches from Ponte Gardena up to the Sella massif or to the Sella and Gardena passes. The people who live in Val Gardena mainly speak Ladin, a very old language that is only spoken by about 30,000 people worldwide and dates back to the time of Roman settlement. Of course, the locals speak German and Italian as well and are very hospitable. If you want to delve deeper into the culture and customs of the Val Gardena people, we recommend visiting the museum "Gherdëina" - Val Gardena in Ladin in the centre of Ortisei, which will introduce you to the tradition of wood carving, archaeological finds and many other testimonies of the culture in Val Gardena.
